​Her mind wandered…
She was settled for the night.  She was in town, at her ‘Mom’s’, but there was that nagging at the back of her mind.
He occupied that space.  He wasn’t the only one…other men had staggered in, stalled, and stomped on through, but he stayed the course.
She missed his calming presence.  The maddening, resourceful,  steady path he trod.  He trod it through her mind, through her home, and sometimes she tired of his incessant trodding.  Trodding day and night…
She knew she would finally fall asleep at last, searching for the monotony, and anticipating the skip of the beat that was her heart, when she finally saw him treading up the path that lead to her…and the occupation of the space that only he could fill.
